Bali has a seemingly infinite number of cool restaurants, bars and cafés. That means, it can quickly become overwhelming to choose where you want to eat. To help you decide where to eat, in this post you will find a Bali restaurant & bar review of the places we visited during our 3-week trip to Bali.
The Scale
I’ll be rating all restaurants on a scale from 1 to 5 stars. Here’s what each rating signifies:
⭐️ Skip this place
⭐️⭐️ Visit only if you’re starving and can’t find anything else
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Decent place, but nothing super memorable
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Would definitely eat here again
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ YOU HAVE TO VISIT THIS PLACE
Other things to note
Most of our accommodations offered free breakfast with the booking. Hence, we mainly ate out for lunch, dinner and had some drinks here and there. The reviews are therefore mostly for these three categories, with just sporadic breakfast spots in between.
If you press on the restaurant name it will take you to the location on Google Maps. I think this is useful because a) you can directly save the restaurant if it speaks to you b) you can look at more reviews and pictures and c) you can check whether it fits into your itinerary 🙂
Ubud
1. Café des Artistes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This café was right next to our hotel so it was very convenient for us. They have an outdoor garden and it’s located on a quiet street. Loved the cocktails!
2. Karsa Café
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This café is located at the end of the Capuhan Ridge Trail right amidst the rice fields. You don’t sit on regular chairs, but instead in small huts. We just got some juices as a refreshment here, but the atmosphere is really unique and calming. If you want you could probably take a nap here tbh.
3. Teba Sari
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food was good and the restaurant is really pretty. It’s just veeeery touristy since it’s right across from the famous Tegallalang rice terraces and all the tour guides / drivers take their guests here.
4. Cretya Day Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WE LOVED IT HERE! Not local or traditional at all, but the atmosphere, amenities and overall experience is amazing! We spent the whole day here on a daybed just enjoying life.
5. Bollywood Indian
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We love Indian food, so this was a nice change from all the Nasi Goreng we have been eating. Food was great and the live music was really fun and entertaining 🙂
6. Warung Gauri
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The restaurant is located in a courtyard. Food was good, but overall, nothing special about this place. It was quite affordable though, so that’s a plus!
7. Murni’s Warung
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Murni’s is kind of an upscale Warung, which is a traditional Indonesian restaurant. Food, atmosphere and service was all very good.
8. Why Not Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Again, not local or traditional at all, BUT SUCH A FUN PLACE! At night they play a lot of rock and pop classics, and everyone is singing along and having a great time. Needless to say that we spent almost all our nights here 😉
Sanur
9. Seagrass by the Beach
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We only had drinks here but the restaurant is so pretty! If you’re looking for an aesthetic place, you’ll like this restaurant 🙂
10. Lilla Pantai
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This restaurant is right on the beach (like you can eat with your feet in the sand). I remember the restaurant being cute, but food was not memorable haha.
11. La Playa
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The restaurant is right by the beach, but the food was mediocre…
Legian / Seminyak / Kuta
12. The Sand
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Honestly almost don’t remember this place. Neither good nor bad I guess 🙂
13. Capil Beach Grill & Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Food was mid and definitely overpriced since it’s located right by the beach.
14. La Plancha
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
LA PLANCHA IS THE BEST BEACH BAR IN SEMINYAK!!! It’s so pretty, music is good, vibes are great, the food and drinks are yummy – in my opinion it’s the ONLY place to be at sunset!!
15. K Resto
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
K Resto is located right by the beach, but other than that it’s not very memorable.
16. Sacred Ground
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cute brunch spot, but nothing more 🙂
17. Ku De Ta
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ku De Ta is quite a popular / well-known day club. Personally, we weren’t really impressed and compared to all the other places we’ve eaten it was highly overpriced.
18. Kuta Social Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a cool rooftop bar and restaurant! We were here for lunch (was ok), drinks and also coffee. I’d say the reason to visit is the view during the daytime, not any food / drinks in particular…
19. Makan Place
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our hotel was right across this restaurant so we obviously HAD to try it. The entrance is very grand and pretty, and so is the inside. We all had Indonesian food and some cocktails, which was all really good.
20. Hard Rock Cafe
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m a big Hard Rock Café fan, yet the one in Kuta didn’t really hit the spot. The music was WAY too loud and the Nachos were subpar.
21. The Champlung
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Another mid beach restaurant. In general, we didn’t have the best food experiences in the beach front restaurants…
22. Lemongrass Thai
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
THE BEST THAI FOOD I’VE EVER HAD. So so so good and the staff was super friendly!
23. The Coffee Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I believe they are famous for their huge milkshakes, which were fire. They also serve breakfast and snacks.
24. Azul Beach Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We came here for happy hour drinks. There was also space for dancing, so we had a good time! The place is very much a vibe if you like Latin music 🙂
25. MoonLite
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is another rooftop restaurant. Contrary to the Kuta Social Club, I’d say come here for dinner during sunset for amazing food and views!
Uluwatu
26. Sundays Beach Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another super fun day club! This one is right on the beach and we spent the whole day here again. Bonus: There’s a super unique funicular that takes you from the entrance down to the beach. If you’re in the Uluwatu area it’s worth a visit!
Nusa Penida
27. Coco Penida Restaurant & Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very aesthetic place but the breakfast food was mediocre.
28. Next Level Cafe
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very basic restaurant but located right by the beach and the Indonesian food was super yummy. As 99% of the time I had Nasi Goreng here 🙂
29. Penida Colada Beach Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had dinner and some drinks here. Everything was veeeery yummy and the restaurant is very aesthetic! They also have a lot of vegetarian / vegan options 🙂
Gili T
30. Window Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
GREAT place for sunset drinks!
31. Warung Warna
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Almost can’t remember it, hence neither good nor bad.
32. The Banyan Tree
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very hip vegetarian / vegan restaurant, which we didn’t find much throughout Bali. Right by the beach and yummy food, nothing to complain 🙂
33. Pinkcoco Beach Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another GREAT sunset bar!
34. Scallywags Restaurant
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was our faaaaavourite restaurant on Gili T! There is a row of tables right on the sand, and all the tables look right out to the sea. They have an a la carte menu and an all you can eat buffet option (which my boyfriend obviously loved haha). It was very romantic 🙂
Wow, that was a long list! To conclude, I’d say overall we had a very positive food experience in Bali. As in many countries, the super touristy places (e.g. right on the beach in Kuta / Legian / Seminyak) didn’t have the best food. But overall, even places that we randomly found and hadn’t googled before turned out well most of the time 🙂
If you’re wondering how much money we spent on food, check out my budget post here.
