A Detailed Guide To The Tree Top Walk In Singapore
The TreeTop Walk in Singapore takes you over a 250-meter-long suspension bridge among the canopy of the rainforest in MacRitchie Reservoir Park. It gives you a unique bird’s-eye view of the surroundings that you won’t find anywhere else in the city.
In this post, I’ll tell you everything you need to know before starting this walk — from how to get there and what to expect, to essential tips for making the most of your day.

Where to Start the TreeTop Walk Hike
There are two main entrance points to MacRitchie Reservoir Park. However, unless you want to walk for about 10 hours, I recommend entering through the upper entrance at Windsor Nature Park.
The main street is Venus Drive, and you can find the exact entry location with these GPS coordinates: 1.359487, 103.826947.
Since the trail is a loop, you’ll end your hike right where you started.
How to Get to the TreeTop Walk Trailhead
By Car – Parking at Windsor Nature Park
Parking is available directly in front of the Windsor Nature Park entrance. The car park is open from 7 am to 7 pm, giving you plenty of time to explore.
By Bus – Public Transport Option
I don’t personally have experience with Singapore’s bus system, but you can find up-to-date routes on the official NParks TreeTop Walk page. It says that you can take the bus 132, 163, 165, 166, 167, 855, or 980 and get off at Upper Thomson Road (Opp Flame Tree Pk, Bus stop ID: 53071; Flame Tree Pk, Bus stop ID: 53079).
By MRT (Metro) – Closest Station to the Trail
The closest station is Upper Thomson MRT on the brown Thomson–East Coast Line. You can get here from Marina Bay or Maxwell (near Chinatown), or transfer from the green East–West Line or red North–South Line.

When you exit Upper Thomson MRT, you’ll see Thomson Plaza — a convenient spot to grab breakfast, snacks, or coffee before your hike. From there:
- Walk left, against the direction of traffic.
- Pass the gas station on your left.
- Turn left onto Windsor Park Walk.
- Shortly after, turn right onto Jupiter Road.
- At the end of the street, turn right onto Venus Drive to reach the entrance.

Route & Navigation Tips
The route is straightforward with plenty of signposts. The key rule: You must hike the loop counterclockwise to be allowed onto the suspension bridge.
On the official map, at point 3 toward the right, you’ll see a striped line and a solid red line. Take the striped path — it’s more scenic and keeps you immersed in the forest. The solid line leads you onto a road beside the forest, which is less enjoyable. If you accidentally end up there, turn back — it’s worth the detour.

The most important thing to remember navigation-wise is to always follow signs for TreeTop Walk until you reach the suspension bridge. After crossing, follow the signs back to Venus Drive Car Park. The signs also list distances, so you’ll know roughly how far along you are on your hike.

What You’ll See on the TreeTop Walk Singapore
The trail immerses you completely in nature while still feeling very safe.
You’ll walk along natural dirt paths (your shoes may get a little muddy) and well-blended boardwalks that integrate beautifully with the rainforest surroundings.
You will see many different types of trees, and you’ll feel as if you are in a movie theater with 360 degrees surround sound. You’ll hear birds, monkey, frogs – and if you’re lucky you’ll even get to see the animals! If you see something rattling in the forest, maybe stop and look for a while! For more information about the local wildlife check out this brochure.

The highlight is, of course, the TreeTop Walk suspension bridge. It’s narrow, which is why everyone must go in the same direction, but it offers spectacular views over the MacRitchie rainforest. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some wildlife (e.g. snakes!!) resting in the treetops.

How Long the TreeTop Walk Takes
The official website suggests allowing 3–4 hours. I’d even say plan for up to 5 hours if you want to rest, take photos, or enjoy the scenery.
It’s a longer hike than you might expect for being in the middle of the city — but absolutely worth it. On weekends, you’ll also see a lot of runners on the trail, if you are into that then this might be a faster way to explore the area.
Bathrooms Along the TreeTop Walk
If you’re taking the MRT, you can use the bathrooms at Thomson Plaza or the gas station before starting your hike.
On the trail itself, bathrooms are limited — we only saw them once, shortly before the suspension bridge. My tip: use facilities when you find them, even if you don’t think you need to!!
What to Wear for the TreeTop Walk Singapore
In general you can complete the hike in any attire. While there are some areas that are unpaved, and can get muddy if it starts raining, it’s nothing that you can’t handle with city shoes. But if you want to be prepared, here’s what I suggest wearing:
- Sneakers: I’d recommend to wear gym shoes/sneakers, which you don’t mind getting dirty! You don’t need hiking boots for this hike.
- Sports attire: Your clothes should be comfortable, light-weight and breathable. Hiking is a sport and you will likely work up a sweat during some sections.
- Waterproof jacket: Surprise, surprise – you are still in Singapore! The weather is very unpredictable, so be sure to have something to cover up in case it starts raining!
- Backpack: I highly recommend taking a backpack or some other type of comfortable bag with you. It’s a long hike, you definitely need to be carrying water and some snacks with you.
- Sunglasses: Self-explanatory.
- Hat: While a large portion of the walk is usually in the shade of the trees, there are areas (like the suspension bridge), where you are exposed to the sun.
- Sunscreen: And lastly, don’t be fooled by the fact that you are in the rainforest. The sun is still somehow strong and will manage to get through to you. Wear sunscreen!
What to Bring on the TreeTop Walk
Here are some other things you should consider bringing along with you for the day:
- Snacks: Definitely pack a light lunch and plenty of snacks. The hike is quite long and there are no restaurants or kiosks along the way to purchase anything. However, be careful about the monkeys! Always beware when you take out food and don’t eat in front of monkeys, the WILL steal your food. Also make sure to take any trash back home with you 🙂
- Water: Singapore gets really hot and humid!! Make sure to drink plenty of water along the way. I’d recommend to pack at least 1L per person!
- Camera: If you have a camera, bring it on the hike. While phone cameras have a decent zoom nowadays, some of the animals might really be far up in the trees and hard to capture.
Final Thoughts
That’s everything you need to hike the TreeTop Walk in Singapore! It’s one of Singapore’s most unique outdoor activities — a chance to escape the city without leaving it, and see the rainforest from a whole new perspective.
