Bali has a seemingly infinite number of cool restaurants, bars and cafés. That means, it can quickly become overwhelming to choose where you want to eat. To help you decide where to eat, in this post you will find an extensive Bali restaurant review from all around Bali!
The BALI RESTAURANT REVIEW Scale
The Bali restaurant review will be based on a rating of 1 to 5 stars. Here’s what each rating signifies:
⭐️ Skip this place
⭐️⭐️ Visit only if you’re starving and can’t find anything else
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Decent place, but nothing spectacular
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Would definitely eat here again
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ YOU CAN’T MISS THIS PLACE
Focus on bali restaurant reviews FOR lunch & Dinner
Most of our accommodations offered free breakfast with the booking. Hence, we mainly ate out for lunch, dinner and had some drinks here and there. The Bali restaurant reviews are therefore mostly for these three categories, with just sporadic breakfast spots in between.
If you press on the restaurant name it will take you to the location on Google Maps. I think this is useful because a) you can directly save the restaurant if it speaks to you b) you can look at more reviews and pictures and c) you can check whether it fits into your itinerary 🙂
Bali restaurant review: Ubud
1. Café des Artistes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This café is very centrally located, yet still on a quiet street. They have a very cute and inviting outdoor garden, which we really loved. Food was great and we loved the cocktails!
2. Karsa Café
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This café is located at the end of the Capuhan Ridge Trail right amidst the rice fields. You don’t sit on regular chairs, but instead in small huts. We just got some juices as a refreshment here, but I’d definitely say that due to the atmosphere it’s probably among the best cafés in Ubud. It’s very unique and calming. If you want you could probably take a nap here tbh.
3. Teba Sari
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The restaurant is veeeery touristy since it’s right across from the famous Tegallalang rice terraces and all the tour guides / drivers take their guests here. We didn’t have high hopes, but we were honestly pleasantly surprised! The food and the service was excellent, and the location is very convenient 🙂
4. Cretya Day Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WE LOVED IT HERE! Not local or traditional at all, but the atmosphere, amenities and overall experience is amazing! We spent the whole day here on a daybed just enjoying life. With the daybed fee you get a certain amount of free food credit, which is why I’m rating the day club as a restaurant. Definitely an Ubud must visit in my opinion!
5. Bollywood Indian
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We love Indian food, so this was a nice change from all the Nasi Goreng we have been eating. Food was great and they often have live music, which was really fun and entertaining 🙂 Personally I’d say this is one of the best restaurants in Ubud for dinner…
6. Warung Gauri
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The restaurant is located in a courtyard just off the road near the ricefields.. Food was good, and the presentation was veeeery pretty (look at the picture!). It was quite affordable, so if you are looking for good affordable restaurants in Ubud you might want to check it out!
7. Murni’s Warung
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Murni’s is probably the closest that we got to fine dining in Ubud. I’d say it’s sort of an upscale Warung, which is a traditional Indonesian restaurant. Food, atmosphere and service was all very good, but you should be prepared to spend a little more here 🙂
8. Why Not Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Again, not local or traditional at all, BUT SUCH A FUN PLACE! At night they play a lot of rock and pop classics, and everyone is singing along and having a great time. Needless to say that we spent almost all our nights here and I’d therefore say it’s one of the best bars in Ubud 😉
Bali restaurant review: Sanur
9. Seagrass by the Beach
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We only had drinks here but the restaurant is sooooo pretty! If you’re looking for an aesthetic place, you’ll like this restaurant 🙂
10. Lilla Pantai
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This restaurant is right on the beach (like literally, you can eat with your feet in the sand). This is another very aesthetic restaurant with decent food.
11. La Playa
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
The restaurant is right by the beach, but the food was mediocre… We had dinner here and none of our dishes were great, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
Bali restaurant review: Legian / Seminyak / Kuta
12. The Sand
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The restaurant is located in another courtyard, which is illuminted at night by string lights. The atmosphere is definitely very nice, but since the restaurant is part of a nicer hotel the crowd was definitely older (I was 25 at the time as a reference haha). The food was very nice though.
13. Capil Beach Grill & Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Food was mid and definitely overpriced since it’s located right by the beach. I had the Quesedilla and something just didn’t taste right.
14. La Plancha
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
LA PLANCHA IS THE BEST BEACH BAR IN SEMINYAK!!! It’s so pretty, music is good, vibes are great, the food and drinks are yummy – in my opinion it’s the ONLY place to be at sunset!!
15. K Resto
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
K Resto is located right by the beach They usually have live music in the evening and a wide variety of foods on the menu. I had fish and it was very good. Overall everything was ok, but it didn’t blow our minds and wasn’t very memorable in any special way…
16. Sacred Ground
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cute brunch spot that offers all the usual breakfast foods. Coffee was good. I’d recommend it for an everyday breakfast / brunch 🙂
17. Ku De Ta
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ku De Ta is quite a popular / well-known day club. Personally, we weren’t really impressed and compared to all the other places we’ve eaten it was highly overpriced. Feels like a place where you go to be seen and to show off…
18. Kuta Social Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a cool rooftop bar and restaurant! We were here for lunch (which was ok) and drinks / coffee. I would definitely come back here for drinks, the view and the vibe is really great! So make sure to visit during the day to take advantage of the view 😉
19. Makan Place
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our hotel was right across this restaurant so we obviously HAD to try it. The entrance is very grand and pretty, which is what intrigued us in the first place. We all had Indonesian food and some cocktails, everything was really really good!!
20. Hard Rock Cafe
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m a big Hard Rock Café fan, yet the one in Kuta didn’t really hit the spot. The music was WAY too loud and the Nachos were subpar. Unless you’re collecting tshirts or pins, you might want to skip this particular Hard Rock Cafe…
21. The Champlung
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Another mediocre beach restaurant. In general, we didn’t have the best food experiences in the beach front restaurants…
22. Lemongrass Thai
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
THE BEST THAI FOOD I’VE EVER HAD. So so so good and the staff was super friendly! In my opinion one of the best restaurants in Bali of our entire trip!
23. The Coffee Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Coffee Club is famous for their huge milkshakes, which were FIRE. They also serve breakfast and snacks.
24. Azul Beach Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We came here for happy hour drinks. There was also space for dancing, and from time to time they even offer Salsa / Bachata lessons. We had a blast at Azul Beach Club! The place is very much a vibe if you like Latin music 🙂
25. MoonLite
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is another upscale rooftop restaurant. Contrary to the Kuta Social Club, I’d say come here for dinner during sunset for amazing food and views!
Bali restaurant review: Uluwatu
26. Sundays Beach Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another super fun day club! This one is right on the beach and we spent the whole day here again. Bonus: There’s a super unique funicular that takes you from the entrance down to the beach. If you’re in the Uluwatu area it’s worth a visit!
Bali restaurant review: Nusa Penida
27. Coco Penida Restaurant & Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The breakfast food we had was mediocre. However, the place is such a vibe and really allows you to hang by the beach with amazing views, so we still enjoyed it 🙂
28. Next Level Cafe
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very basic restaurant but located right by the beach and the Indonesian food was super yummy. As 99% of the time in Bali, I had another Nasi Goreng here 🙂
29. Penida Colada Beach Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had dinner and some drinks here. Everything was veeeery yummy and the restaurant is very aesthetic! It’s definitely not a local place, but I’d say this was the best restaurant in Nusa Penida that we visited! They also have a lot of vegetarian / vegan options 🙂
Bali restaurant review: Gili T
30. Window Bar
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
GREAT place for sunset drinks! As most bars in Bali, they have bean bags that allow you to just chill and relax…
31. Warung Warna
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The food was not bad, but also not great. I had another Nasi (or maybe Bami) Goreng here and it was definitely on the oilier side compared to others I’ve had… However, the restaurant is very well located and has tables right in the sand on the beach, with string lights in the trees at night. So you’ll have a nice evening either way…
32. The Banyan Tree
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very hip vegetarian / vegan restaurant. Right by the beach and yummy food, nothing to complain 🙂
33. Pinkcoco Beach Club
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another GREAT sunset bar with bean bags!
34. Scallywags Restaurant
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was our faaaaavourite restaurant on Gili T! There is a row of tables right on the sand, and all the tables look right out to the sea. They have an a la carte menu and an all you can eat buffet option (which my boyfriend obviously loved haha). It was very romantic 🙂
Wow, that was a long list of Bali restaurant reviews! To conclude, I’d say overall we had a very positive food experience in Bali. As in many countries, the super touristy places (e.g. right on the beach in Kuta / Legian / Seminyak) didn’t have the best food. But overall, even places that we randomly found and hadn’t googled before turned out well most of the time 🙂
