Final Thoughts
My top recommendations? For sunset drinks, head to La Plancha in Seminyak. For Indonesian food, try Murni’s Warung in Ubud. And if you’re visiting Gili Trawangan, don’t miss Scallywags Restaurant for a romantic beachfront dinner.
As with many destinations, we found that the most touristy beachfront restaurants (especially in Kuta, Legian, and parts of Seminyak) often weren’t the best for food. But overall, even random spots we discovered along the way turned out to be surprisingly good.
- Pro Tip: Save this list and drop pins into your Google Maps before your trip so you always know where to eat in Bali—whether you’re in Ubud, Uluwatu, Nusa Penida, or the Gili Islands!

Frequently Asked Questions About Eating in Bali
1. What food is Bali famous for?
Bali is best known for traditional Indonesian dishes such as Nasi Goreng (fried rice) or Mie Goreng (fried noodles). You’ll also find plenty of fresh tropical fruit, smoothie bowls, and international cuisine thanks to Bali’s diverse food scene. Be careful though about “Bali Belly” – personally I like to follow the rule “cook it, peel it or leave it”.
2. Is Bali expensive for eating out?
It depends! Eating at a local warung (small restaurant) can cost as little as 5 CHF per meal, while trendy beach clubs or upscale restaurants may easily go over 20 CHF per person.
4. Do I need to book restaurants in Bali?
We didn’t book ahead anywhere! But if you have your eyes set on something and don’t mind being tied with a time, why not! The only place I’d recommend to have a booking is the day clubs, but we showed up even there on the day of and got in 🙂
